Blackmagic PYXIS 6K is a digital film camera with an active L mount for full-frame L-type lenses, including Leica, Panasonic and Sigma models. It uses a 24 × 46 mm full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 × 4032 pixels, equal to 24.6 Mpixel. The sensor area is three times larger than Super 35, allowing shallow depth of field and effective performance in low-light conditions.

The camera combines 13 stops of dynamic range, dual native ISO up to 25,600, a newly developed low-pass filter, two CFexpress card slots and an Ethernet port for file sharing through Blackmagic Cloud. Simultaneous 12-bit Blackmagic RAW recording supports a post-production workflow. All standard resolutions and frame rates are available, from HD to 4K DCI at 60 fps and up to 6K. In window mode, the camera reaches 100 fps at 2112 × 1184 pixels in Super 16 format.

Using the full sensor area, the operator can select 8 aspect ratios, including 3:2 open gate and 6:5 anamorphic, without cropping. With anamorphic lenses, recording is available at 4832 × 4032, 4.8K at 24 fps, using a higher resolution than the conventional Super 35 window mode. The extended dynamic range preserves more detail in the brightest and darkest parts of the image than ordinary videocameras, while the colour space is wider than the DCI-P3 standard used in cinema.

For framing, the camera can accept a Blackmagic URSA Cine Full HD OLED EVF. The integrated 4-inch HDR LCD touchscreen, with 1920 × 1080 resolution and 1500-nit brightness, provides access to camera information and on-set shot replay even under strong lighting. The compact body is made from CNC-machined aeronautical aluminium, combining solidity, low weight and precision. Multiple mounting holes and side plates make it possible to configure the camera with handles, microphones, external SSDs and other accessories, and to install it on cranes, gimbals and drones.

ISO, white balance and shutter controls are positioned for direct access. Touchscreen controls work alongside physical buttons, a push scroll wheel and three customisable function buttons, keeping the main adjustments available without navigating through menus. The audio section includes integrated stereo microphones with minimal background noise, shock resistance and wind protection, plus a mini-XLR input switchable between microphone operation with 48 V Phantom power and line level up to +14 dBU, as well as a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack input. A professional external microphone can also be connected.
