Blackmagic PYXIS 12K PL is a full-frame cinema camera with a compact, modular body designed to combine flagship performance, low weight and extensive configuration freedom. It can be used as the main camera for independent productions, documentaries, fashion, travel and corporate shoots, or as a second camera on high-end feature-film and television sets to extend scene coverage or handle specific shots.

The next-generation RGBW sensor reaches 12K resolution at 12,288 × 8040 and includes an optical low-pass filter. Its RGBW structure improves colour accuracy, colour separation and the handling of highlights and shadows compared with traditional Bayer sensors, with 16 stops of dynamic range. In-sensor scaling makes 4K, 8K and 12K operation possible without cropping: the entire full-frame sensor surface remains active and the 12K image is internally resampled to create 8K or 4K.

This maintains visual consistency on projects that switch between resolutions and on productions requiring ultra-high-definition material for VFX, green screen or plate work. The box-style body supports lightweight handheld rigs, configurations using gimbals, drones, arms and vehicles, and complete cinema setups with matte boxes, follow focus and professional accessories. The fixed PL mount works with high-quality professional cinema lenses.

The camera records internally in 12-bit Blackmagic RAW at every supported resolution. It can generate H.264 proxies at the same time, supporting fast, collaborative and cloud-based workflows. It includes two CFexpress slots, a high-speed USB-C port for SSD recording, 10G Ethernet for immediate transfers and automatic uploads to Blackmagic Cloud, 12G-SDI output, mini-XLR audio and Time Code. The RAW codec is intended for post-production, avoiding the typical limitations of mirrorless cameras using compressed codecs and simplifying the path from shooting to finishing.
