Blackmagic Design Ultimatte 12 8K is a real-time compositing processor with keying functions, live video, next-generation broadcast graphics and virtual sets. The platform combines advanced algorithms, colour science, edge processing and precise colour separation to maintain faithful colour reproduction.

The models in the series share the same image-processing algorithms and a large colour space, allowing compositions to retain consistent quality. Mattes are generated automatically inside the unit so different areas can be processed separately according to colour. Sub-pixel processing contributes to image definition.

A processor can be assigned to each camera and used for a specific camera angle, with a background frame loaded without external equipment. Single-touch compositing analyses the scene and automatically configures more than 100 parameters, simplifying the creation of keys.

A dedicated compositing mode places coloured objects over the foreground image and enables broadcast graphics with transparency effects. Processing also covers halos, edges, transitions and background removal without affecting other colours. Separate areas can be isolated and treated independently while retaining smooth transitions. The system automatically samples colours, creates accurate masks for walls, floors and other image areas, and applies the required correction.

Seven separate video inputs are available for combining elements from different sources, for a total of 32 SDI video inputs. Ultimatte Software Control for Mac and Windows is included at no extra charge, with its main page arranged in function sections. Frame archives for Ultimatte 12 8K can be loaded from the computer running the software; they are stored in flash memory and remain available when the unit is switched off. The 10G Ethernet port provides faster uploads.

Ultimatte Smart Remote 4 is available as an optional accessory. It is a touchscreen remote-control device that can operate up to 8 Ultimatte 12 8K units over Ethernet.
