Blackmagic Design DeckLink 8K Pro G2 is a second-generation PCIe 8K card for digital cinema capture and playback, intended for high-resolution, high-frame-rate and high-dynamic-range workflows. It features 4 bi-directional Quad Link 12G-SDI connections and HDMI 2.1, supporting SD, HD, Ultra HD, 4K and 8K standards. It is designed for feature film production and, through the free DeckLink SDK, can configure up to 4 video streams in any direction, format or frame rate up to 4K DCI 60p, enabling multi-channel capture and playback. It supports 8- and 10-bit YUV 4:2:2 and 10- and 12-bit RGB 4:4:4 with full Rec. 2020 colour; it can operate up to 120 fps in HD and 4K and up to 60 fps in 8K. The 4 12G-SDI connections support up to 64 channels of embedded audio.

Connections and audio. The SDI video inputs are 4 x bi-directional 12G-SDI and support SD, HD, 2K, 4K and 8K, with single-link, dual-link or quad-link operation, 4:2:2/4:4:4 and switchable 2D/3D. The SDI video outputs have the same configuration: 4 x bi-directional 12G-SDI, SD, HD, 2K, 4K and 8K support, single-link, dual-link or quad-link operation, 4:2:2/4:4:4 and switchable 2D/3D. SDI audio inputs and outputs provide 16 embedded channels in SD, HD and 2K and 64 embedded channels in 4K and 8K. HDMI video input and output are each 1 x HDMI 2.1; HDMI audio input and output handle 8 embedded channels in TMDS and 32 embedded channels in FRL. The sync input accepts Tri-Sync or Black Burst.

Interface, installation and software. The computer interface is PCI Express 8 lane generation 3, compatible with 8 and 16 lane PCI Express slots. Physical installation requires 2 PCI slots plus a connection to the computer power supply; the card is compatible with Mac OS, Windows and Linux, and the support pages should be checked for full system requirements. Mac OS and Windows include DaVinci Resolve, Media Express, Disk Speed Test, LiveKey, Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility and the Blackmagic driver; Linux includes Media Express, Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility and the Blackmagic driver. Internal software upgrade uses firmware built into the software driver, loaded at system start or through updater software.

Supported codecs include AVC-Intra, AVCHD, Canon XF MPEG2, Digital SLR, DV-NTSC, DV-PAL, DVCPRO50, DVCPROHD, DPX, HDV, XDCAM EX, XDCAM HD, XDCAM HD422, DNxHR and DNxHD, Apple ProRes 4444, Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes LT, Apple ProRes 422 Proxy, uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 and uncompressed 10-bit 4:4:4.

SDI video standards. SD includes 525i 59.94 NTSC and 625i 50 PAL. HD standards include 720p 50, 720p 59.94, 720p 60, 1080p 23.98, 1080p 24, 1080p 25, 1080p 29.97, 1080p 30, 1080p 50, 1080p 59.94, 1080p 60, 1080PsF 23.98, 1080PsF 24, 1080PsF 25, 1080PsF 29.97, 1080PsF 30, 1080i 50, 1080i 59.94 and 1080i 60. 2K standards include 2K DCI 23.98p, 24p, 25p, 29.97p, 30p, 50p, 59.94p and 60p, plus 2K DCI 23.98PsF, 24PsF, 25PsF, 29.97PsF and 30PsF. SDI compliance includes SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 274M, SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 296M, SMPTE 372M, SMPTE 424M, SMPTE 425M level A and B, SMPTE 2036-1, SMPTE 2048-1, SMPTE 2081-10, SMPTE 2081-11, SMPTE 2081-12, SMPTE 2082-10, SMPTE 2082-11, SMPTE 2082-12 and SMPTE ST2108-1. SDI metadata support covers RP 188/SMPTE 12M-2 and closed captioning. Audio sampling is television-standard 48 kHz at 24-bit, while SDI video sampling is 4:2:2 and 4:4:4. SDI colour precision is 8-, 10- and 12-bit RGB 4:4:4 in all modes up to 8K DCI 30p, plus 8- and 10-bit YUV 4:2:2 in all modes. Colour spaces are REC 601, REC 709 and REC 2020; SDI video connections can switch between SD, HD, 2K, 4K and 8K.

HDMI standards and functions. HDMI video sampling is 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and 4:2:0*; HDMI colour precision is 8, 10 and 12-bit*. Supported video sampling and colour precision depend on the connected HDMI device capabilities, video resolution and frame rate. HDMI colour spaces are REC 601, REC 709 and REC 2020. HDR support includes HDR static metadata packing and HLG and PQ transfer characteristics. HDMI 2.1 supports Deep Color and HDR and automatically configures to the connected display.

The HDMI input cannot capture from copy-protected HDMI sources; copyright ownership must always be confirmed before capturing or distributing content. Colourspace conversion is hardware-based and operates in real time on the output. 3D processing provides left-eye/right-eye dual-stream capture and playback through SDI only. Real-time effects include DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro internal effects, Adobe Premiere Pro CC Mercury Playback Engine effects and Avid Media Composer internal effects.

Power consumption is 30 W and operating temperature is 5 to 50 °C.
