Column loudspeaker PL16 16 driver 3" throw 25m - Harmonic Design HDE-60220

The Harmonic Design hd PL16 is a 1-way passive PowerLine column loudspeaker with 16 x 3" full-range drivers housed in a rounded aluminium cabinet. Driver coupling produces an almost cylindrical wave front with a 10° vertical aperture, keeping sound pressure constant and reproduction nearly uniform from the first row to the last. Its throw reaches up to 25 m, while 80° horizontal coverage provides high efficiency with only a small number of loudspeakers.

The more direct output improves speech intelligibility and provides high feedback rejection in acoustically problematic rooms. The hd PL series is therefore suited to voice and music reproduction in halls, clubs and churches. Compared with the hd ML24, the PL16 has a lower overall height at the same weight, making it easier to use below low ceilings and to transport in cars. The greater directivity of the 3" drivers channels sound energy more effectively through the 80° horizontal opening angle, resulting in greater throw.

A larger membrane surface than the hd ML24 gives the PL16 more powerful music and speech reproduction in the low-mid range and allows higher sound pressure levels. In fixed installations, the system's full-range capability can eliminate the need for a subwoofer when reproducing speech.

Conventional loudspeakers commonly use two or three different transducer types to reproduce a programme from the fundamental range through the harmonics. Different diaphragm masses and decay times can cause inconsistency around crossover frequencies and in the important mid-frequency range. When one transducer handles the low range and another handles the high range, reproduction may also become distorted. The hd PL series addresses this with a 1-way design: full-range drivers cover the fundamental range through the harmonic, combining Line Array advantages, including a cylindrical wave, with coherent sound reproduction and no phasing or group delay.

A continuous rear metal guide for M6 square cage nuts accepts wall brackets or a tilting tripod adapter. An integrated 35 mm flange is fitted on the bottom. The high-quality powder-coated aluminium profile and acoustic foam complete the PL series construction. For secure transport, Harmonic Design offers a custom zippered nylon case with handle and shoulder strap.

An installation version is also available. The main features described for the product include precise and uniform sound output, nominal dispersion of 80° x 10°, an elegant design and a weight of 11 kg.
