The HM 2 is a device designed to eliminate hum (50 Hz AC current) caused by ground loops. It is also designed to convert unbalanced signals to balanced signals. Most of this buzz (60 Hz in the United States and 50 Hz in most other countries) is caused by ground loops, as a result of the fact that electricity uses different pathways to access the earth. These ground loops act like radio antennas, capturing hum and noise. The HM-2 removes this nuisance altogether, by breaking the ground loop.
