The Spi Extender is a device that extends the range of the SpiNode (or third-party SPI controllers) from 10 m to a maximum of 250 m from the LED strip. It is designed to solve a common problem in SPI installations, where the controller and LEDs are located at a considerable distance from each other. In these cases, the standard SPI signal is not robust enough to ensure reliable transmission. This is where the SpiExtender comes in: it converts the SPI signal into a much more robust differential signal, suitable for traveling over CAT5 or higher cables, thus allowing much greater distances to be covered without loss of quality.
Please note that each SPI path requires two devices: one configured as a transmitter, to be placed near the controller, and one as a receiver, to be placed near the LEDs, where the signal is converted back to standard SPI. The operating mode can be easily selected via an integrated switch.
The SpiExtender supports clocked and unclocked SPI signals, operates on a 5 to 24 V power supply, and consumes approximately 100 mA. It is designed to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to +50 °C and complies with CE, ROHS, and UKCA regulations. Additionally, the device features status LEDs that clearly indicate whether it is receiving data, not transmitting, or sending / receiving.
