Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO is a professional live production switcher built around an integrated broadcast control panel. It includes the complete feature set of the ATEM Television Studio HD8 and can operate eight remote cameras through a local Ethernet network or worldwide through the Internet, with tally and camera control available. The integrated panel makes the unit portable and suitable for locations without rack space or broadcast trucks.

The video section provides 8 SDI inputs with standards conversion, 12 SDI video outputs and 1 HDMI video output. There are 2 SDI aux outputs and 1 SDI programme output. Video input re-sync and frame-rate and format conversion are available on all 8 inputs. Supported HD formats are 720p 50, 720p 59.94, 720p 60, 1080i 50, 1080i 59.94, 1080i 60, 1080p 23.98, 1080p 24, 1080p 25, 1080p 29.97, 1080p 30, 1080p 50, 1080p 59.94 and 1080p 60; there are no SD video standards. SDI compliance covers SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 296M, SMPTE 424M and SMPTE 425M level A and level B. Video sampling is 4:2:2, colour precision is 10-bit and the colour space is REC 709. Automatic SDI switching detects signals between 1.5G-SDI and level A or level B 3G-SDI.

For compositing, the switcher has 4 upstream keyers, 2 downstream keyers, 4 advanced chroma keyers, 1 SuperSource and 7 linear/luma keyers. The transition keyer provides 1 Stinger and 1 DVE. The total layer count is 8, with 7 pattern generators and 2 colour generators. SuperSource and 2 media players add further options for live composition and media playback.

Total audio inputs consist of 2 XLR balanced analogue audio inputs, 1 BNC 32-channel MADI digital audio input, 2 RCA stereo analogue audio inputs and 1 5-pin XLR Talkback input. Total audio outputs include 4 1/4-inch jack analogue audio outputs and 1 BNC 64-channel MADI digital audio output, with up to 50 active channels, plus 1 5-pin XLR Talkback output. Each SDI input carries 4 channels of embedded audio, while every SDI output carries 2 channels of embedded audio.

Time Code connections provide 1 BNC input and 1 BNC output, and an internal Time Code generator is included. The reference section has 1 BNC input and 1 BNC output for Tri-Sync or Black Burst. The RJ12 Remote connection supports RS-422. Talkback is provided through an RJ45 connection for third-party talkback systems. Tally output is added through an Ethernet connection to the Blackmagic Design GPI and Tally Interface product, which is not included.

Monitoring includes 1 3G-SDI multiview and 1 HDMI multiview. The webcam output uses 2 USB-C connections supporting 720p or 1080p at the programme frame rate. Networking is provided by 4 RJ45 connections with an Internet network switch supporting 10/100/1000 BASE-T. The control panel can connect directly to the chassis over Ethernet or through a network. The computer interface has 2 USB-C ports with USB 2.0 support for external-drive recording, webcam output, software control, software updates and switcher connection. Further functions include hardware streaming, recording, audio mixing, talkback and optional internal shared network storage. The ISO version can record all 8 video inputs as separate files, providing greater flexibility and detail during editing.
