ATEM Television Studio 4K8 is an Ultra HD live production switcher with a built-in broadcast control panel. It provides 8 12G-SDI video inputs, 12 SDI video outputs, 10 12G-SDI aux outputs for external recorders, a 4-port 10G Ethernet network switch, built-in streaming, a master recorder, multiview, USB webcam support, 2 DVEs, SuperSource, 4 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers, 2 media players and Talkback. The feature set also covers audio recording, cloud synchronisation and Blackmagic Cloud.

SDI rates are 1.5G, 3G, 6G and 12G, with 1 HDMI video output. Audio inputs consist of 2 XLR balanced analogue inputs, 1 BNC 32-channel MADI digital audio input, 2 RCA stereo analogue inputs and 1 5-pin XLR Talkback input. Audio outputs include 4 1/4" analogue jack outputs, 1 BNC 64-channel MADI digital audio output with up to 50 active channels, and 1 5-pin XLR Talkback output. All SDI inputs carry 4 channels of embedded audio, while the SDI outputs provide 16 assignable channels.

Time Code connectivity includes 1 BNC input and 1 BNC output. Reference connectivity consists of 1 BNC input and 1 BNC output, supporting Tri-Sync or Black Burst. Video input re-sync and frame-rate and format conversion are available on all 8 inputs. There are 10 SDI AUX outputs and 1 SDI programme output. The 2 USB-C webcam outputs support 1280 x 720p or 1920 x 1080p at the programme frame rate. Multiview comprises 1 12G-SDI output and 1 HDMI 2.0 output.

Remote control uses RJ12 with RS-422 support. The control panel connects through Ethernet, either directly between the panel and chassis or through a network. An internal Time Code generator is included. Talkback uses RJ45 for third-party Talkback systems. Tally is added through an Ethernet connection to the Blackmagic Design GPI and Tally Interface product, which is not included. Ethernet provides 4 RJ45 ports with an Internet network switch and supports 10/100/1000/10G BASE-T. The computer interface has 2 USB-C connections supporting USB 2.0 for external drive recording, webcam output, software control, software updates and switcher connection.

There are no SD video standards. HD input standards are 1280 x 720p 50, 1280 x 720p 59.94, 1280 x 720p 60, 1920 x 1080i 50, 1920 x 1080i 59.94, 1920 x 1080i 60, 1920 x 1080p 23.98, 1920 x 1080p 24, 1920 x 1080p 25, 1920 x 1080p 29.97, 1920 x 1080p 30, 1920 x 1080p 50, 1920 x 1080p 59.94 and 1920 x 1080p 60. Ultra HD input standards are 3840 x 2160p 23.98, 3840 x 2160p 24, 3840 x 2160p 25, 3840 x 2160p 29.97, 3840 x 2160p 30, 3840 x 2160p 50, 3840 x 2160p 59.94 and 3840 x 2160p 60.

SDI compliance includes SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 296M, SMPTE 424M, SMPTE 425M level A and B, SMPTE 2081-1, SMPTE 2081-10, SMPTE 2082-1 and SMPTE 2082-10. Video sampling is 4:2:2, colour precision is 10-bit and the colour space is REC 709. Automatic SDI switching detects 1.5G-SDI, level A or level B 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI.

The control panel has 1 mix effects row, 10 direct cross points and 20 shifted cross points. Crosspoint buttons use tri-colour LEDs, while the crosspoint label is a 6-row, 24-character LCD. The panel includes 1 preview transition, 1 source select bus, 10 dedicated macro buttons plus 10 shifted buttons, and 5 transition type buttons. The software supports Mac 14.0 Sonoma, Mac 15.0 Sequoia or later, Windows 10 and Windows 11. The package contains ATEM Television Studio 4K8 and a welcome wallet with a QR code for software download.
